Brought it to local shop did engine diagnostic recommended replacing the coil and adjusting the ignition components. Mentioned new plugs and distributor $200.00 in labor and $65.00 for parts. Drove it home it ran fine let it sit in the garage at home for a couple of days then tried to start it, it turned over, but would not start. Blue smoke appeared and smelled a bit like oil. Let it sit awhile. Same result.

Good afternoon,

Do you still have the points in the distributor? If you do, is there spark coming from the coil when cranking?

Also, check the wire that runs from the coil to the points. Make sure the wire is not frayed or bare anywhere.

I did not install the coil so I don’t know the answer to the first question. However, I do have a mechanic coming by next week to my home to look at my car. I will let him know what you have said here.
I have to think the coil is sparking this must be why there was some smoke coming from the engine area.
I will check the wire you mentioned too.
Thanks
