Sometimes truck will crank but not start when cold but usually it is when I drive around for while. Engine gets hot and I turn off to run in a store and when I come out it will start but then proceed to run rough then out of gas. Then it will just keep cranking and no start. Took to get diagnosed and could not find any codes or problems. The weird thing is once started it runs great just afraid to stop it anywhere. I thought maybe fuel pump but I have no issues when truck is started. I think it might be ignition switch or crankshaft censor. I have spark cause if I squirt a little gas into the throttle body it will start up. It is like something is telling the fuel pump not to turn on. So once engine is normal operating temperature and I stop somewhere when I try to start it back up sometimes it will start up and other times it will start for a second run rough and then out of gas. I cannot afford to take into dealer and have them throw parts into it when they cannot fine the problem. Once the engine cools down it will almost always fire up no problem.

Hello, I am Danny.

Have you tested the fuel pressure? I am attaching a tutorial for you to show what it takes to test your fuel pressure. Most auto parts stores have a tool loaner program that will let you rent a tester. Your pressure should be 41-42 PSI at idle. Could be a low/weak pump. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions if needed. Thanks for using 2CarPros.

I suspected that too. When I had the truck diagnosed they said they checked the fuel pressure and it was fine. But I want to test myself cause I think it is losing pressure. Because I will pull the fuel line off the rail and there is no gas coming out. I have tried this before and one time was under pressure and started squirting out and I had to put it back on. How long should the fuel lines keep pressure in the lines? If I hook up a gauge and pressure drops within thirty minutes it must be the pump right. I heard the ignition switch could not send the proper signal to initialize the pump to pressurize.

Hello again.

As stated in the last post it should stay constant at 41-42 PSI at idle. As long as pump is energized it should stay there consistent. It would not be changed by the ignition switch. You will lose a bit of fuel out of the rail from what is stored when using the Schrader valve (service port). Hope this helps.
