The clutch sticks to floor at times, or after depressing clutch it slowly returns to the up position when taking foot off pedal. Other times it works fine. Brake pedal sometimes has the same problem returning to top position after foot is removed. Any solutions?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com. Based on the mileage and since it happens to both pedals, I suspect the pedal bushings are worm. They are located where the pedals attach under the dash. Here are the directions for replacing them specific to your vehicle. NOTE: the item numbers correlate with the picture I have attached. I feel if you inspect item 3, you will find it to be worn and causing drag.

Item Part Number Description
1. Brake Booster
2. 353574-S36M Washer
3. 2461 Brake and Clutch Pedal Bushing
4. 97414-S Retaining Ring
5. 2455 Brake Pedal
6. 519 Clutch Pedal
REMOVAL
Disconnect the wires to the stoplight switch located below instrument panel.
Remove the hairpin clip, slide the stoplight switch, the push rod, the nylon washer and brake master cylinder push rod bushing away from the brake pedal.
Remove the brake master cylinder push rod spacer (2B129) and then the stoplight switch by sliding stoplight switch up or down.
NOTE: Since the switch side plate nearest the brake pedal is slotted it is not necessary to remove the vacuum booster input rod and one brake master cylinder push rod bushing from the brake pedal.

Remove the stoplight switch from the brake pedal.
Disconnect the clutch master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal (7519).
Disconnect the Clutch Pedal Position Switch (CPP Switch) (11A152) from the push rod.
Remove the retainer from the brake pedal shaft.
Remove the clutch pedal and brake pedal shaft from the bracket.
Remove the brake pedal.
Remove the spring washer and inner brake master cylinder push rod bushings from the brake pedal.
Remove the outer brake master cylinder push rod bushings from the bracket.
If required, remove the brake pedal pad from the brake pedal.
INSTALLATION
If removed, install the brake pedal pad on the brake pedal.
Inspect the brake master cylinder push rod bushings for signs of wear or damage; replace if required. Re-lubricate the brake master cylinder push rod bushings with a light coating of SAE 30 engine oil or equivalent.
Insert the two outer brake master cylinder push rod bushings in the bracket.
Place the brake pedal, inner brake master cylinder push rod bushings and spring washer in position inside the bracket.
Insert the clutch pedal and brake pedal shaft through the bracket and brake pedal.
Install the retainer on the end of the clutch pedal shaft.
Connect the clutch pedal position switch on the push rod.
Connect the clutch master cylinder push rod to the clutch pedal.
Install the stoplight switch on the brake pedal.
Connect the brake booster push rod and stoplight switch to the pin on the brake pedal.
Install the brake master cylinder push rod spacer and spring retainer attaching the stoplight switch and push rod to the brake pedal.
Connect the wires to the stoplight switch.
Adjust the clip on the clutch pedal position switch as necessary.
Check unit for correct operation.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe
