2000 Chrysler Grand Voyager 6 cyl 196000 miles

I heard a load pop while sitting in my car when the engine was running, the car shook and than I turned it off because I did not know what was wrong. Can someone please assist me as to what may be wrong?

Could you tell if the sound came from the front or back? Did the engine continue running?

Thank you for responding to my question. It sounded like it came from the front and the engine did continue to run. When I now start the car it runs hard and if I drive up a hill and press on the gas, has a hard time moving. Almost as if it is having difficulty getting into gear.

Has the check engine light come on? I wonder if it was a timing chain that jumped a tooth on the sprocket.
