My 1996 Cirrus has been shutting off for months now when I'm going at slower speeds and sometimes at higher speeds. It starts to choke and acts like it's not getting any gas. I'll have the pedal to the floor in a panic trying to keep the car going; then it eventually shuts off. Very dangerous anytime and especially in traffic.

While this is happening the check engine light comes on. The next day, the car runs normal for several days or even over a week; then the same cycle happens again. It seems to happen always about an hour or less after I buy gas; though it happens in betwwen fill ups too.

I was told it may be the oxygen sensor. I just don't know. Could you please help. Thanks, RJ

If the check engine light was on, there should be a code stored in the computer. Take it to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. Most will do it for free, and it should identify where the problem is coming from.

Let me know what you find.
