This project cars about to wear me out!

This problem has happened twice. Most recent was just before dusk about a quarter mile away from my house I’m old and did not want to walk home but I decided I would.

It was running fine I had just replaced the fuel sensor approximately two weeks ago and a month before that I had the air sensors? There’s two of them I think that’s what they’re called you reach them from the car and they are on opposite sides of the engine if I remember correctly when I got underneath the hoist. Well, it did the sputtering hesitation thing again the other day so I just pulled over to a side street called some help and then it started back up about 20 minutes later my friend followed be home. I drive children around in this car cannot have it doing this. The shade tree mechanic that’s working on it says that the crankshaft position sensor is probably out. Can you just slap a new one back on or does something need to be checked to be lined back up since the word position is on this part? Anybody want to buy a 2005 PT cruiser convertible?

Hi,

The crankshaft position sensor could be the problem. When they start going bad, heat adversely affects them. As far as replacement, it isn't too hard to do.

Take a look through this link and let me know if it seems to mirror what you experience.

If it does, check to see if spark is lost to the plugs when it won't restart. Or, if you have a live data scan tool, check for an RPM signal when cranking.

Here is a link that shows how to check for spark:

If you determine it is bad, here is a link that shows in general how one is replaced:

I attached the directions and pics specific to your vehicle below. Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
