My four wheel drive service light is on. The switch on the dash does not light up. I am not sure if the 4wd is engaging or not. GM issued a TSB about the connectors and the wiring harness being faulty as well as the speed control sensor. Another issue may be the encoder motor. How can I tell which issue it is without throwing parts at it.

There are several bulletins regarding transfer case faults. Everything from the encoder sensor to reprogramming of the TCCM is mentioned. It may not be either issue, you don't know at this point. The best advice would be to have the diagnostic codes read. This will give you a more defined direction. If the transfer case control module needs calibration upgrade, it will need to be done by a dealer terminal.
