What size lower ball joints does a 1996 4-dr Chevy tahoe 5.7L Vin "R" use? I have been getting two different answers.

I don't have measurement, but they differ in terms of how they are mounted. Either 2WD or 4WD. If 4WD, either bolt-on or pressed fit. If pressed fit, either 45.79mm or 47.89mm.

The size of ball joint used is based on the type of control arm. If you check the arms to see if they are a stamped one piece steel or if they are two piece welded where the piece the ball joint presses into looks like its a cast steel piece welded into the control arm. The welded arms use the larger of the two ball joints
