1990 Chevy Tahoe steering wheel shakes

What would cause the steering wheel to shake when braking? This has been going on for about a year, says my wife. I just returned from Iraq about three weeks ago and am just now able to get around to working on her vehicle.

Also the brakes seem kind of soft, but when you get on them they will stop the vehicle, but just seem a little soft to me.

Any help that you could give me would be great.

Hi there,

This is a common problem, have the brake rotors machined and replace the pads if they are getting low, flush and re bleed the brake fluid, this will often give a good pedal again.
