Brakes problem
2001 Chevy Suburban V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 200k miles

I have a 2001 chevrolet suburban on which I just replaced the rear brake system, including new rotors, pads, and parking brake shoes. My question is rearding the fit of the new rotors over the new parking brake shoes. The rotors would barely fit over the parking brake shoes and had to be hammered on with a rubber mallet. It's an extremely tight fit to the point that the wheels would not turn easily by hand. I suspect that the tight fit is causing the rotors to heat up excessively. Is this common for this to happen? I am concerned that the heat from the parking brake friction will prematurley wear down the parking brake shoes and cause rotor warpage. The ironice thing is that the new shoes seem to just fit inside the rotor hat, but once installed there was virtually no space between the shoes and the rotor hat. Any suggestions?

That sounds like it's way too tight.
There is an adjuster to back off the brake shoe but you may have some real problems getting the rotor back off now without destroying everything.

Thanks for your reply. The adjuster is turned in as far as it can go. Can you provide any additional details about whether this is a common problem on Chevy trucks/suburbans? Everything appears to be aligned so I have to believe others have had this problem too.

I believe it's just an installation issue. Something isn't backed off all the way or the shoe is out of place.
