2001 silverado, 2500 HD, 50000 miles, 6.0 engine. I loose reading on the gauge panel and a few seconds after the transmission downshifts to 2nd gear. Sometimes the gauge panel will come back to life but the only way to get the transmission back is to shut off the truck and restart. Sometimes it works ok after that sometimes it dosen't. I checked for codes and there are none. I checked for intermittant loss of power at the ignition 0 fuse and it seems to be ok. Help, the local dealer says they never heard of this problem with no codes.

Hey there, the loss of power at the ipc (inst panel cluster ) will cause transmission to lose power and go into limp mode, the cluster sends a signal to the driver information center and over to the pcm which determines what gear the trans should be in, as long as nothing else in the cab is malfunctioning I would check or suspect the ipc, a few other fuses to check are the rdo1 and ign 1 on the side of the dash, these are terrible problems to have I usually tell people with a problem like this to drive it till it breaks, if your handy with a meter you can pick up a wiring diagram from mitchell online it covers the whole vehicle on repairs and if I remember right its about 20 bucks for a year, good luck if I can help any more let me know but this should be you started
