no starter operation?

check and make sure the activation wire to the selinoid is getting voltage from the ignition switch to the selinoid. check and make sure there is not a fusible link that might be bad in the activation wire. On some models there is a fusible link under the relay cover on the passenger side firewall, check that also. This guide can help us fix it

my truck has been sitting for 3yrs i changed battery,checked my fuses, pulled my starter had that tested its good.when i go to start it i get nothing. not a click or anything my dashlights work.i cut my d.l.c.(data link connector)out to use elsewhere.that wouldnt have no effect would it?i live in the mountains so taking it to the shop is out.any help?thank you 2carpros!

Hold the key at cranking position and check for power at the starter solenoid small terminal with a pruple wire if there's no power -check the purple wire if its open to the ignition switch-NOTE: You do not have a NSS/Park and Neutral switch. Its from the ignition switch straight to the starter

Hi, It sounds like your battery cables might be the problem. Using a test light test for 12 volts at the starter. If you power is present replace the cable(s) Also, check the fusible links down at the starter to make sure they are intact. Thanks for using 2carpros.com

93 chevy silverado intermittent no crank. Sometimes starts just fine other times nothing. I have a good battery dash lights are on and don't dim when I turn the key. Do need to pull the steering wheel and check the ignition switch?

Your probable causes here could be the starter, starter relay, park and neutral switch/clutch switch and ignition switch assuming the battery and connections are good.

After starting my truck and running it for only a short time (2 min), two weeks ago, it has gone belly up
My truck's engine won't turn over or fire on gasoline being added to the carborator. I've checked the distributing caps and wires made sure nothing was torn or wet. I live in a wet environment and think that some other connection isn't being made. Do you have any suggestions on where to look next?

I ended up filling one of the battery portals and jump starting the engine that way. Thanks for the tip on checking the bat. I has started beautifully since I broke off the obstructions to the connections.

There is a red wire going to the junction box on the firewall on the passenger side that burnt completely in two while trying to start the engine. Where does this red wire go to & what is causing this wire to get hot only in the start mode?

These wires burn when they get melted by the exhaust manifold on the right side. You will need to replace the fusible links at the starter as well. I know because it happened to my truck I have the same thing.

Yep you guys are so good you hit it on the money, I got the parts to fix it and the starter had to come out but I got it fixed up. I love this site thanks again ;)

I have a 92' chevy silverado 1500 that does'nt start sometimes. It will make a "click" noise when I turn the key, and another "click" when I release. It only happens sometimes, and if I keep on turning and releaseing the key it will eventually start. Do I need a starter?

If it's the starter clicking then there's a good chance it could be the starter.I would have the battery tested and make sure the battery cable's are clean and tight.Also do you have a multimeter or test light to do some testing when it act's up so we can see if it's the starter?

The battery is new and fully charged, the cable connections are clean and tight. I do have a multimeter, but I'm not 100% on how to use it. At first the truck was starting more than not starting. Now the problem has gotten worse. It may start first try sometimes but when it fails, it makes a kinda loud click noise (sounds like its coming from the starter) and a lesser click noise when I release the key from the crank position.

Since your not sure how to use the multimeter do you have a test light?Those are really easy to use.Let me know it sound's like a bad starter though i just want to be sure.Also make sure the positive battery cable to the starter is clean and tight.Make sure you check that with the negative cable unhooked from the battery.If you have a test hook the aligator clip to a ground when it doesn't start and see if you have power to the purple wire at the starter with the key in the start position.If you do bad starter.If we use the multimeter the black lead goes to the common connection on the meter and the red lead goes to the V connection on the meter.Then set the meter to 20 DC volts then ground the black lead and use the red lead to test for battery voltage at the starter purple wire with the key in the start position if you have battery voltage and the starter is inop bad starter.Let me know what you find.

The truck quit running and would not start up.Spark quickly arose from the terminals an battery. I fixed the wiring. And when i went to put it back negative went first. Then positive, smoke started again to rise from the terminals.

It sounds like you had a fusible link burn out, probably due to a short somewhere else in the truck. If you burned out a fusible link and replaced it with regular wire, that is a big no no and can cause a fire or severe damage to the car. You need to find the short and repair it first and then replace the wire section with fuse wire.

the truck doesn't crank over. the battery is new. the fuses look ok. what do you think the problem is?

Need to see if voltage is present on solenoid wire when key is turned to start. May have ignition switch or solenoid/starter fault.Also try starting in neutral
