2002 Chevy S-10 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2002 Chevy S10 4.3L 4x4 Crew Cab. During the hottest days of the summer the engine would die every once in a while, but she would go again as soon as we turned the ignition. But, a few weeks ago I was driving along slowly and the engine died and wouldn't start again. We changed the Fuel Filter and she still wouldn't go, so we asked a friend with some mechanical experience what he thought the problem was. He said he was almost certain it was the Fuel Pump. So, I ordered a Delphi Fuel Pump only to find out when it arrived that it was for a 2004 S10.

My question to you is does it sound like it might be the Fuel Pump that is the problem? Also, will the 2004 Fuel Pump fit my 2002 S10 pickup? Thanks for any help you can give me.

When key at run position -do you hear the fuel pump come On for 2 secs? If so confirm the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge whether its within specs then report back for more assistances

Your part no. On the 2002 P/N 25176789 and for the 2004 Fuel pump is P/N 25359055- its different

Thanks for the quick reply. It sounds like the pump runs when we put the ignition in the start position, and fuel will come through the filter to the relief valve on the engine, but I don't have a pressure gauge to test the pressure. I live in a small isolated community and don't know of anyone who has one.

It is very critical that the fuel pressure in the system is within specs. An EFI system depends on accurate pressures to function effectively
