Removal & Installation (2.2L) Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove engine-to-transmission brace rod bolts. Raise and support vehicle as necessary. Remove engine-to-transmission brace rod. Pull starter heat shield away from starter solenoid. Disconnect starter solenoid wiring. Remove starter mounting bolts. Remove shims and note arrangement for reassembly (if equipped). Remove starter assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure shims are installed in original location (if equipped). Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Follow the positive battery cable, it takes you to it.
