1989 Chevy S-10 brake and turn lights

What would cause for my brake lights to work with my head lights off but not when there on and when I turn my right turn signel on my brake lights flash

I'd check the feed to the brake lite switch. The switch is activated by the brake pedal arm. The feed should be hot all the time, check it with headlites on and off.

The brake lites and turn signals use the same bulb filament, just not at the same time. They are wired through the turn signal switch.
