No oil pressure

I have a 1970 chevy nova with a 396 big block when I was adjusting the timing at the distributer I lost oil pressure. Im want to know if an o ring on the distributer shaft going bad would cause this problem

The rubber o ring on the top of the distributor is a seal so oil does not come out. But the bottom of the distributor shaft runs the oil pump. There is a shear pin in the gear. Check the distributor and gear
make sure it seats correctly.
