2002 Chevy Monte Carlo short wiring

I am having a problem, there is a short near my dash board, if I hit the dash my cruse control, top display panel and ac start working for a while, then turns off again. Can you tell me where I can possibly find the area where these wires could be. I was thinking to take out the front dash and looking?

There is a large plug that goes trough the firewall on the left side. But the short could be anywhere. Good luck and make sure y our battery is disconnected so you don't screw up and have the air bags blow off in your face as it will take out the windshield as well.
