My son replaced the rear brake pads on my 2006 Malibu Maxx now the car won't start. The service engine light and the anti-theft light come on, but none of the other gauges. The car only makes clicking noises. The lights work and I can shift gears.

Actually, the brakes have nothing to do with the ignition system. If you hear only a click, are you sure the battery isn't low? Also, if the battery is good, does the security light on all of the time?

Let me know.

The car lights inside and out seem dimmer than usual, but we tried charging the battery and it didn't change anything. The anti-theft and service engine lights come on when I put the key in the ignitiion and try to start the car, and, yes, the anti-theft light stays on and blinks the way it should when the car is off and locked. The clicking noises seem to be from everything that is not turning on the way it normally would. The car was working fine right before the brake replacement, would the battery go down in a couple of hours? Thank you.

You might try locking the car manually and letting it sit for a minute or two then unlock it using the remote. I had a simular experience when to many of the remote buttons were pressed before deactivating the first instruction. Ie. Pressing the panic button then pressing the lock and the start before clearing the panic, it runs down the battery and locks the computer until you can get enough power in the system. Disconnect the ground and reconnect after a couple seconds
