I recently took my car in for a diagnostic test because it started to cut off on me. I would shut it off then restart it and it would be fine. I took it in because it was happening too often. They replaced the ignition wires and spark plugs, cleaned the egr ports and gave me a wheel alignment. I picked up the car and about 20 mins later, the engine got really loud and it completely shut off. Had it towed back to the shop only for them to tell me my camshaft cracked and I would need to replace the engine. Do you think it could have been something the repairman did to cause that to happen? They gave me the option of paying for a used engine and they will eat the cost of the labor or to pick up my car as is and they will refund some of the $ from the previous repairs they made. Also, last question-wouldn't the diagnostic test have shown the cracked camshaft?

I have a 2001 Monte Carlo (3.4) and it was running strange on me, stalling out when idle. I did some maintenance on it, changing the oil, oil filter, transmission fluid, transmission filter and I threw in some fuel injector cleaner on a full tank on gas. After all that my "Low Oil Pressure" light was being displayed on my dash. I took it to a shop, and it has a cracked camshaft. I also need a new engine. My mechanic said this is actually common amoung GM vehicles. I only have 104,800 miles on it.
