1999 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a '99 Malibu and it just went into the shop and got the intake gasket replaced. Before it went into the shop, it would idle at about 700ish rpms and now it idles at 1200 rpms. I was just wondering what it should idle at. I've asked people like, my dad since he's really good with cars and he said that it shouldn't idle that high. Does anyone know what it should idle at?

On a cold start up, it should idle around 800 r.P.M and gradually decrease as the engine warms. Then you should idle at around 500 r.P.M.S.

The shop who replaced your intake gasket may have installed it incorrectly and/or caused a leak in a vacuum hose. They should warranty their work and fix your problem for free.

If I've helped you, please take the time to vote for me, as my reputation pays my bills. Thanx, Ernest.
