2000 Chevy Impala Speedometer not working

Hi,
We needed to swap out the original engine and replaced it with a new one the new one is the proper 3.8 v6 for that year. The swap was done by a local shop and now the speedometer is not working as well as the "check engine" light is on. Any ideas what he did or did not do properly.

PS my wife is freaking out as it is her car.

Chances are the speed sensor wasn't reconnected. As far as the check engine light, take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. Most will do it for free. After they scan the computer, ask them to reset the light to see if it comes back on.
