Noises problem
2000 Chevy Impala 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2000 impala 3400 v6 everything is stock as of today. The other day I noticed a high pitch noise when I accelerate. Parked the car turned it of and started it up again. Once again I heard that high pitch noise again an also my exhaust or sound of the car is louder than usual. I only notice the noise when I press the gas or when starting up. At idle I dont hear it but the car is noticably louder to me though. Took it to a shop an they told me its my flex pipe. I really dont wanna waste no money if thats not the problem. I was needing more advice an im also trying to do sum research on this problem because I dont know if it could be my convertor or resonator etc. Thanks

If it is the flex pipe, and it very well could be, use a home made stethoscope out of a section of brake line, probe the pipe, a leak will be very easy to find. I worked in the exhaust business a number of years ago, and it's foolproof. Cut brake line in half, insert each end into a section of rubber hose, this way it's flexible and easy to maneuver.

Thank you sir I will look into that asap. But the sounds of it to u its probably the flex pipe right? Cause in the past I never noticed my car sounding this loud. And the high pitch squeal does sound like its somewhere in the exhaust. Once again thank you sir.

My experiences are that exhaust usually makes either a loud roar, or a loud hissing like an open air hose on a compressor, squeals or whines are usually belts and pulleys.

Exhaust noises get loader when you give gas. One exception is if it's a very small leak at a gasket, it can quiet down as the heat expands the joint. It will get worse before you make it better, Does it sound like it's from under, or in front of the car?

The noise is at the front of the car like when im driving with the windows up the car sounds louder an the hissing/squealing is heard only when pressing the gas but at idle the hissing/squealing isnt heard or not as bad. My car didnt sound like this when I first bought I but I really hope its only exhaust related issues thanks again for replying sir

Flex pipe could be the problem, do the test and report findings.
