My equinox recently stopped running - got it going again and it was making a sound similar to a baseball card in a bike wheel's spokes. Brought it to dealer who said it needs a new engine because the oil is dirty. Last oil change was at 58000 miles. Any other possibilities other than a whole engine replacement?

Sounds like there is a little more to the story. How often do you have the oil changed? Was it making noise before it died? How did you get it going again? What did the dealer say is making the noise?
