Engine Cooling problem
1996 Chevy Corvette Two Wheel Drive 130000 miles

my belt broke, took it to repair shop, fixed it, 2 days later tstat broke, towed to same repair shop, it was not leaking water, they called me said I need new water pump I said can I drive it they said yes but just make sure of water levels. When I got there they were putting water in radiator, which was not empty when I towed it there. I watched water just dump onto the ground I said I cant drive it like that, they put new pump in. After $600 I picked it up and said to them it won't over heat now right? They said no it wont. I drove 5 miles it overheated. They checked the head gaskets the day before and said they were fine. Now after 2 1/2 hours of waiting they told me there is a small hole in head gasket. Is this something they are doing to my car?

There seems to be some severe lack of communication here and a little incompetence to go with it.

The moment you lost your belt, that was the tip that further problems were in store. If you overheated it when the belt broke, that's when a blown head gasket became a real possibility however something caused that belt to break which was the water pump. They missed that and also advising you about the possibilities of a blown head gasket at that time. The thermostat was just a misdiagnosis of the other problems although it should have been automatically included in the water pump repair that was overlooked the first time.
