Engine Cooling problem
2003 Chevy Corvette V8 Manual 56000 miles

A week ago I was sitting in traffic when all of a sudden the gauge light came on. The tempature was pegged to 260. Took it to a local shop they said it was the fan motor going out blowing 30 amp fuses. Left that day still got up to 245 in traffic but wont hit the red. We changed the thermostat, did a pressure check, changed the oil, still running hot at idle. The car has never gone over 230 in dead heat, hot houston traffic? What could be causing this? Radiator flush? Water pump? Warped radiator from overheating? Moving on the highway it wont go over 210. This is all new to this car and I know this car should not get to 245? Thank you for your help.

I take it the cooling fan cycles on and back off, or does it stay on in traffic? Doubt the radiator was hurt from the overheating. Be sure there are no obstructions in the radiator or a/c condensor that could hamper air flow, those cars are like vacuum cleaners. Also might want to have the cooling system chemical tested for a blown head gasket just to be sure.

The fans do stay on on traffic, but car will not cool down. As soon as I start moving the car drops to 210 and sometimes 198. It seems like the car cant cool itself down at idle or stop and go traffic. Could this be the coolant temp. Sensor?

Sounds like all is working if the fans come on. Check for debris in the grille. If the fan stays on it has aflow problem of some kind, that is why it cools when moving. Did the shop use a universal fan motor? If so be sure it is moving air the right direction, they can be wired either way. Is th ecoolant level ok, those cars can be a pain to get the air out of the cooling system sometimes too
