1996 Chevy Cavalier car shuts off plz help me fix it!

Hey I have a older cavalier and when I slow down by hitting the brakes it shakes and makes weird sounds then if I come to a stop or almost stopped it stalls then shuts off then I start it up runs fine put it in drive shuts off again I know theres alot of miles but plz help me try and fix this problem thanks

Your transmission is not down shifting. It is staying in overdrive. The torque converter after you go thru the gears locks in to the same speed as your crankshaft. It is staying in lock position.I would be typing all night if I tryed to explain it to you. So call a transmission shop and have them to explain it to you over the phone. But your tranny is not downshifting.
