I was wondering how one would replace the ECM in a 1992 (VIN 4) Cavalier. In my Haynes manual, it talks about a PROM unit, and shows it under a removable flap on the ECM case, but I cannot see any such flap. Is there a PROM in the ECM for this car that needs to be put in a new ECM, or can I just swap in a different ECM?

Usually the new ECM does not have the PROM in it
and you have to remove it from old ECM
if I recall correct the ECM have two screws you remove
( the access cove to the PROM

if you have a (used) ECM
you can just swap them
