I have a 1989 Iroc-z convertiable 305 multi-port. A while back sometimes the motor would rotate but not start I would leave it set or disconect the batery and reconnect and it would start. Now I can not get it to start I have exasted the "tricks" that worked before. The wires are fairly new as are the plugs cap and button I am getting fire from the coil but it still will not start. The 89 was the first camaro to come out with the chip in the key I have changed the stering coulum and ignition it has started hundreds of times since then but I worrie that could be some of the problemb. The car has 65,000 miles and it ran pretty good.

I the key could be the cause but I don't think so. Since it has run for a while with that key. How is the fuel pressure. Has the fuel filter been replaced? Would check the fuel system.

I am getting fire from the coil but it still will not start-if you are getting it from the coil it has to make thru the cap and rotor to get to the plugs. Double check.

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me. Can you hear your fuel pump running with the ignition on?

There are (2) small white wires cover covered by a orange coloured sleeve coming off the ignition cylinder that breaks after years of turning the ign. These wires are what runs to the chip reader if one wire is broke then it will not read the chip resistance on the key not allowing the car to start. Sometimes if you move the orange wire a bit it might make contact if boken.
