Engine shut off while driving

Hi, I have a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer with 121,000 miles on it. It has a 4.3 liter engine, automatic transmission and 4 wheel drive.

I was driving home one night from work and got about 10 minutes into my journey and all of a sudden just shuts off of no where. No chugging or rough running just quit running. Pulled over tried to start it cranked fine, but nothing. I have checked the fuses (that I know of), replaced the fuel filter, and have also listened to the fuel pump to see if its turning on, turns on fine. When I replaced the fuel filter it did give it a lot more pressure then what it was giving before, I don't have a pressure gauge, just kinda eyeing it : ) I never had any problems before with it always started up fine and no chugging on the road.

Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated.

Need to install a manual fuel pressure gauge to be sure it has enough (60-66 psi), if not it most likely needs a pump and relay. If fuel pressure is okay, have the PCM scanned and get back to me.

Check the pressure with a gauge and check for spark, if the fuel pump run and has flow it may be erratic or too high or too low. Check these first and get back to us.

Okay, I tried to buy a fuel pressure gauge, bought the wrong one, and the stores closed last night, except for auto zone which only carried the wrong fuel pressure gauge so I bought some carburetor cleaner and tried spraying it down in the carburetor, which my brothers said if it starts up we know we have a fuel problem, but if it doesn't start it's a spark problem?

Well Here is the problem now: I sprayed it in and cranked it over and it didn't start so I sprayed some more and it kinda started, but not very good, like not even for a 2 seconds.

Sorry I don't have the pressure readings for you. Going to try to get on that today, but I was just curious if that was helpful diagnosing anything.

Have a great day

Good evening,

This sounds like a loss of spark.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-an-ignition-system

Is the check engine light on? If it is, do you know the code?

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

I doubt it is the crank sensor since the fuel pump runs. If that sensor was bad, the fuel pump will not run.

I think you have either a bad coil or module for the ignition system.

You need to test for power to the coil positive with a test light. Then go to the negative side and have someone crank it. The test light should flash.

If it does, the coil is bad, if it does not the ignition module is bad.
