1998 Chevy Blazer Fuel Tank Capacity

We just purchased our 1998 Blazer used, and the original paperwork we found shows it has an 18 gallon fuel tank. However, the gauge shows empty (and low fuel light comes on) after only using about 12 gallons. Has anyone else had this issue or have any recommendations?

Yes it should be a 18 gallon (technically it is 17.963) tank and maybe get around 16 mpg in city. If the fuel light is coming on but you know it is not actually low than that usually indicates a failing / faulty fuel level sending unit which is in tank
