Charging the battery

I have a battery that is only a few months old. It's going dead frequently. I noticed the negative clip of the charger gets hot and the positive clip stays cold during charging. The charger is on 10 amps. Why could this be and should I suspect a defective battery? Thank you if there may an answer. Randall

Good afternoon,

Charge the battery at a lower rate. Use a trickle charger and let it charge for several hours.

The battery will be fully charged when the voltage is 12.6 volts.

So I should not be concerned of the negative battery charger wire getting hot? This is during charging. The charger is at 10 amps but goes down to 2 amps automatically as the battery gets charged.
