Changing my n14 sr20 pulsars clutch cable

I went to go to work one morning and I started my car pushed in the clutch and it went straight to the floor so I opened up my bonnet and I noticed the cable was broken. A few days later I got the clutch cable I needed for my car which I was told is the right one, everything looks the same, so anyway I removed the old one and tried to match the threads on the new one, I I installed it exactly as it was meant to and it was like it was to loose I tried tightening the threads all the way but it still didn't work I was wondering if it could be the clutch armon the gear box at all or what do you think it could be?
