So I drove my car to work Saturday and it ran fine. Then at my break time I went to leave for the store and the car would not start. I checked the fuel pump and also ran codes which non came up. Out of desperation I unhooked my idle control valve and the car cranked however as soon as I touched the gas pedal it shut off again. I am going to replace the valve but was just curious if it could be something deeper than just the valve itself?

Hello,

So when you say your car cranked, do you mean it started? Usually cranking means your starter is turning the engine, but it doesn't start. The Idle Air Control Valve(IAC) is for when your vehicle's engine is running, when your foot is not pressing the gas pedal, it diverts air around your vehicle's closed throttle plate to keep it running. The IAC would have nothing to do with the starting of your vehicle. Please get back to us with if your vehicle startes, the engine cranked but did not start, or if you turn the ignition key and you hear a clicking noise, or if you turn the ignition key and nothing at all happens.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello again,

Okay, your vehicle needs three things to start.

1) Spark(delivered at the proper time).
2) Fuel.
3) Compression.
If these three things are present your vehicle's engine has no choice but to start. So, by a process of elimination, let's get to why your vehicle is not starting. Let's start with spark. I have included a link below for you to go to.

Please go through this guide and get back to us with what you find out.

1. As far as spark we have it. Changed wires and plugs as I thought that was the initial problem. Once installed I tested and we did have spark. 2. Fuel pump and filter are working fine as well as the injectors. Also found no vacuum leaks.

I don't know much about compression. Also wanna add the situation with the car is strange cause it gave me zero indication there was an issue. Not even a check engine light came on. The starter is good as well as the alternator. Thought I would throw that out there as well.

Hello,

Okay, Do you hear any noises coming from the front of the engine? Also when you turn the engine over does it spin and not even try to crank?

Thanks,
Alex
