Car wont go into gear

When my car is off it will go into gear, but when cranked it wont go into gear. Why am I able to put it in gear while off. When I start the car and it wants to go soon as I turn the switch.

It sounds like a clutch problem like maybe worn out, normally if it goes into gear with engine off then wont with engine on clutch is shot.
