Car turns on but will not accelerate

Is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running? If it is, we need to scan the computer to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes. Here is a quick video showing how it's done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but often times parts stores will lend or rent one to you. So, it the light is staying on, that should be step one.

Now, since the speedometer isn't working, chances are it is going to be tied into a vehicle speed sensor issue. The transmission issue is most likely tied into it too.

When you place it in gear, does the indicator show the correct selection? Also, are there any other lights that have come on?
