Car stopped running and had to tow it home

The car stopped. I have 45 lbs of fuel pressure all the way up to through the fuel rail. What do I do to make it run again?

Hi WS,

We really need the motor size, and did it stop running on acceleration or moving? 45lbs of fuel pressure is okay, but volume may be down to where there isn't enough to keep it running.

My first thought though is the timing belt and if you have the 3.4L, that is a potential. The 3.1 and 2.3 are chain and breakage is unlikely, but not unheard of. It appears you have been trying to start the engine by what you've said which is not advisable (but we all do it). Be that as it may, have you verified the cam(s) are turning or any cylinder compression (1 cylinder only - don't need to do the whole motor)? If you can confirm, or rule out the belt/chain, then we can go further.

Please signal back with info. Thanks Glenn

It's a 3.1 and going down the road at 55 mph and it just quit. It stopped running. We replaced the ECM, coil modulator, crank shaft sensor, oil pressure switch and the valves are working up and down in the motor. Spray starting fluid in it and it fires. Then shuts off of course. Sorry the motor has maybe 10,000 miles as he just rebuilt it. Timing chain and all is good. What could be the problem? He's been a diesel mechanic and a vehicle mechanic and drag race car mechanic and he is stumped! Help please.

Hi again, and thanks for the info.

Do you have noid lights to test for injector electrical pulse? It's pointing to something potentially electrical for the injectors, but test them to ensure they are working or not. I'm sure you have checked it, but here is the location of the injector fuse. It appears not to be ignition related because if does start with outside fuel, that rules that out as an issue.
It is also pointing to the fuel pump/filter/fuel pressure regulator. You say you tested the pressure, but did you watch it while cranking? "If" the injectors are firing, and volume is insufficient, the pressure will drop dramatically and likely not start. If that happens, pinch off the fuel return line and check again. Be careful as it may start doing that.
I'll twist some ears on my end.
Keep me updated. Glenn

Thank you. My husband had already checked the fuses. But it didn't look bowed so this time he just took all 6 or and replaced them. He runs! Not sure about the fuse seeing it didn't look bad. But hey it runs.

Great news!

For all the technology in vehicles these days, it's still the simple things that'll get ya. And sometimes drive you nuts. Could have been the fuse itself or bad connection. Either way, you got it repaired

Thanks for using 2CarPros, and it was a pleasure helping. Have a great Holiday Season. Glenn
