Will not start after shutting off?

My car stalled out on me and now when I crank it, it tries to start it runs rough for about 5 seconds and stalls back out.

It sounds like the fuel pump is going out, when the engine stalls can you turn the key on without cranking the engine over and hear the fuel pump run in the tank for about 5 seconds? If not, chances are the fuel pump has gone out.
