I have a 2002 Chevy Cavalier and have pretty much spent as much fixing the car as I have paying it off. The car stopped after not even going half a mile down the road. Had someone look at it for me and say the timing chain is off. But since another friend looked at it and turned it over so many times we were told the piston valves would be bent. What should I do? Had it for five years.

You can try putting a timing chain in and then do a compression test. That will tell you how the valves are.

But if I did that couldn't it ruin the valves even more?

If the valves are bent there bent you have two choices put a chain on and see what the compression is. Or assume the valves are bent and pull the head.
