Okay, so my problem started when my friend turned on my A/C. We were driving and I started to notice my cool/heat dial was going to the red line, we park near a store and smoke is coming out. We let it cool down and put water so we could drive home. A family friend who knows about cars said it could be the thermostat or water pump so he fixes both. But now my car heats up just by driving it, I can’t drive for too long or my car will heat up and no I don’t have the A/C turned on. Please help!

Good evening,

There could be a couple of reasons.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/engine-overheating-or-running-hot

1. radiator clogged from debris.

2. head gasket damaged from the overheating.

Both need to be checked to determine the failure.

Should I still be driving the car? Could it be dangerous? Also my motor light is on what could that mean? Do I go to a mechanic to get these things checked?

No. Do not drive it until you have a mechanic check it for you.

You could do more damage by driving it.
