While driving vehicle shuts off and starts back up

When I am driving down the road my truck will shut off and everything turns off and five to ten seconds later it will restart by itself. The last time this happened when it restarted and I kept going it had a big backfire.

This sounds like a classic crankshaft angle sensor problem which may or may not leave a trouble code. Here is a guide to help us get an idea of what you are in for when doing the job.
