Engine swap?

Can I swap a 3.5 Montero Sport engine into a 3.5 Montero. My 3.5 l 2002 Montero has a head gasket leak. I looked at just swapping in a new engine, and the Montero sports are about half the price of Montero's in the same 3.5 l size. I know they are essentially the same engines, but I don't know if they are literally the same.

Will the 3.5 l engine from the Montero Sport swap directly into the Montero?

It should, but to be sure you should call a wrecking yard, they have special software that tells you want engines are interchangeable.

Here are the part numbers of both engines - Short Block MD350682
Here is the sport model - Short Block MD350682

So, it looks the same to me as long as they are both 3.5 liters. Because I see many that have 3.0 so make sure you have the correct engine, and you should be okay. Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
