1994 Cadillac STS Knocking

I have a 94 sts northstar that has always ran smooth. It started knocking pretty bad out of nowere and hasn't gone away. I always keep the oil full, and good care of it. I have been told it probley is not the engine or rods or bearings. It has a new oil pump in it, and the oil is still full. The knock sounds like it's coming from the top of the motor. What else could make it knock like that?

A loss of oil pressure to the top end can cause noise. I don't know how severe we are talking since I am not able to hear it, so all I can do is offer suggestion. There is also carbon deposits that can be an issue, that is usually not sudden. If you open the oil cap and peer in, can you see oiling taking place?
