1996 Cadillac EL Dorado noise

I have a rattle in the front passenger side when I drive over bumps. The Cadillac dealer says I need new struts even though they did not drive or look at the car. The tires wear evenly and it handles well. If the struts are the problem, can I eliminate the noise without replacing the struts?

If you want to try and eliminate a possibility, disconnect the sway bar links from the strut or the sway bar. If the noise is gone, replace the link(s). If the struts are the problem, replacing them is the only possibility. You also need to consider the upper strut mount/bearing.
