2003 Cadillac Deville ignition

The ignition on my cadillac deville will not turn so that I can start my car. I have put my foot on the brake and turned the wheel and the switch still will not move. What could the problem be?

First push up hard on your gear lever. Then while holding it up, turn the key.

If this works, then the shift linkage is bent somewhere. If not, then you'll probably have to change out the ignition switch.
