1973 Cadillac Deville Ventilation

The air conditioner does not work but when I run the heat or defrost it initially fogs the windows and it takes at least a half hour of operation before the windows clear. There is also a smell of antifreeze in the car when the defrost is blowing.

Ok so do loose antifreeze in the radiator too. It sounds like you have a heater core leaking. Is the passanger floor wet too?

I have not noticed either the passenger floor wet or the level of antifreeze going down.

Perhaps a leak has just started and not yet reached the carpet - what is an easy way to see if this is the case. How do I reach the core to have a look?

Well it takes removing the top part of the dash and the glove box to get to the heater core so not an easy job. I would have it pressure tested first to see if it is holding pressure or not and take it from there.
