Engine Performance problem
2003 Cadillac CTS 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

BTaylor mentioned he or she had a message to show up in the console display to say Engine Power Reducing and the car slowed down to about 10 miles an hour and shut off. It did, however restart, but the car ran sluggish. I've had the same problem more than 10 times. What could be causing this problem? I'm affraid to drive my car distances more than 25 miles because I might be stuck on the side of the road for hours. This happened 5 times yesterday. The car cut of each time and I had to wait approximately 5-10 minutes before some not all of the power returned. During the "Engine Power Reducing" episode as I mashed on the accelerator pedal, it felt as though there was no response, as if the cable was not even connected to the accelerater.

It is not a cable driven accelerator. What your experiencing is most likely a fault with the throttle actuator, which houses throttle position sensors 1 and 2. If these do not agree at one time or another, then you enter what is called limp home mode, the sluggish accelerator condition, it is implemented to get you out of harms way when the throttle can't be trusted. The reason that it clears, it is probably intermittent.
