1969 Buick Skylark V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When staring car. Car will not start till u release key back towards run position. Turns engine over in start position but doesn't fire until release back towards run position

Is it a conventional distributor or an HEI?

Do this run a jumper wire from the coil's positive terminal to the battery positive post and then attempt to start then comeback and tell me.
