Engine Cooling problem
1997 Buick Regal 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Very mechanicall inclined but I dont have the info needed to change out the water pump. It looks easy, just untension the serp belt and remove pump but looks can be deceiving.
I will be doing this job on thursday am and wanted to know what obstacles, if any should I look out for. Thanks, David

What do you have for engine size?

Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove water pump drive belt. Disconnect necessary coolant hoses. Remove water pump pulley bolts and pulley (access hole in body side rail for long bolt).
Remove front engine mount.
Remove water pump bolts, water pump and gasket. To install, reverse removal procedure using NEW gasket. Fill and bleed cooling system.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner (if necessary). Loosen water pump pulley bolts. Remove serpentine drive belt. Remove water pump pulley bolts and pulley. Note position of locator tab on top of water pump for installation reference. Remove bolts, water pump and gasket.
Installation
Apply thread sealant to water pump bolts. Install water pump and NEW gasket. Ensure locator tab on top of water pump housing is positioned vertically. Tighten bolts to specification
