I was told my car was vapor locked and since I tried to jump start it not knowing it was vapor locked I locked up my motor doing this. Is this true? I have never heard of this. I know now cars are all computerized. My mechanic wants 2 grand to repair this and if this is not it then I do not want to pay it. He also said he tried to turn the motor manually and it would not turn.

First, what's the model and year of your car?

On older cars with carburated systems, vapor lock can happen. However on fuel injected models, the fuel system is a high-pressure recirculating system. Vapor lock, according to the manufacturers, cannot happen.

But should you have a vapor lock, it only prevents your engine from getting fuel. It does not prevent your engine from cranking over, and it does not cause your engine to lock up.

As far as your engine being locked up, since we here at the forums are not able to personally examine your car, have a reputable mechanic look at it. Having a locked up engine is normally pretty serious. I hope this helps.

. He also said he tried to turn the motor manually and it would not turn.

The engine is seized-were you overheating when it happened, or the oil lite came On? You blew something and a full CSI must be perform to identify the cause.

Its true vapor lock will not and will not lock the engine
