1995 Other Buick Models V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic

the serpentine belt broke on my grandmothers old buick. The idle pully also fell off. I replaced the belt and pully, but the idle pully is jumping up and down and it is running bad. Can you tell me what is causing this, and is that what caused it to break in the first place?

The pulley may have lost it 's tension and is no longer to keep the belt at a steady tension. The belt that yo replaced is a different/better type. When a tensioner goes bad you should replace the whole assembly as it gives you better belt tension. They range from $60-120 dollars. It should fix your problem.
